Kamakura
Wednesday 2004-11-10
I took the train from Tokyo to Kamakura. Kamakura is the home of a very famous bronze statue of Buddha and also the site of many temples and shrines. I arrived in Kamakura at about 12:30pm. The lady at the information center at the train station was very helpful. She told me how to find the Buddha and gave me a good map of the nearby sights. It was about a 20 minute walk to the Buddha. It's a very impressive statue. Then I walked to the Hase Temple, which is up on a hill and offers a good view of the city and the harbor. The temple is beautiful, as are the surrounding gardens. From the temple I walked a different route back to the train station. I was back in Tokyo at about 5:30. I called Saori to see if she wanted to have dinner tonight. She was working late, but could meet for dinner after 9:00pm. We met in front of my ryokan and went to the Ueno area to find a restaurant. We found a very nice sushi restaurant and had a great sushi meal. We ate and talked until about 11:45pm. The subways stop running at about 12:30am, so we left the restaurant to be sure that we could catch a train back home.
