Tokyo on foot
Monday 2004-11-08
I'm staying in the Asakusa section of Tokyo. I stayed there on my last trip to Tokyo, but I've never explored the area. Asakusa is an older and somewhat quiet section. The very popular Sensoji Temple is located there. I walked to the Sensoji Temple, using the back streets and alleys. The sights are a lot more interesting if you avoid the main streets and take the side streets. The temple area itself was quite crowded. Next I went west and explored the Ueno area. I went to Ueno park, which is a very big and very nice city park. I love walking in parks, so I spent a lot of time in Ueno park. I left the park a little before dark and headed for Akihabara - the electronics district of Tokyo. I had to see all the latest electronic goodies! Wow - lots of cool stuff! And finally, I made a stop in the Ginza district. Ginza is the high class shopping area in Tokyo. There are lots and lots of very nice shops. By accident I found the Apple Computer Store. It's 5 stories high and is fabulous. The biggest Apple Store I know of in the USA only two stories high. The Apple Store has free internet access, so I spent some time on the web. Finally it was after 9 pm and they kicked me out of the Apple Store. I went back to my ryokan, had a nice hot shower and went to sleep.
