The way home from Ngwai
Sunday 2004-03-28
We left Ngwai after breakfast and then drove to the Putangirua Pinnacles, which is nice short hike that is on our way home. The Pinnacles are a strange looking rock formation that look like giant organ pipes. The hike took about 1 1/2 hours and was quite nice. After the hike we continued the drive home, stopping in two nice little towns along the way. Martinborough is a small town in the center of a wine grape growing area. There's several really nice shops and cafes there, which we checked out. We also stopped at a winery to sample and buy a couple bottles of wine. Greytown is another nice town that we stopped in to relax and have a latte. Then back to Wellington. Carol and I had a quick dinner at a pub / restaurant down the street and then said our goodbyes. I leave Wellington tomorrow morning to go to the South Island. I'll leave my car in Wellington, take the ferry across to the South Island and then pick up another car in Picton on the South Island.
