Chartres
Sunday 2000-08-27
Chartres is beautiful town about 1 hour by train from Paris. I spent most of the day there. The cathedral dates from the 13th century. The architecture and stained glass windows are incredible. It's a huge cathedral and it's amazing that something that big was build almost 800 years ago. This afternoon there was an organ concert in the cathedral. As the concert drew nearer more and more people arrived. When it finally began there were probably close to 1000 people there. I spent some time strolling through the streets of Chartres. Since this is Sunday, most of the shops are closed. But of course the cafes are open. I spent about 45 minutes in a cafe, drinking a nice cold beer and watching the world go by.

It rained in Paris last night. Thank goodness. It has been uncomfortably hot and the rain really cooled things down. Today was partly cloudy, cool and beautiful.

I'm leaving for London tomorrow. After I finish this update I'm going back to the hostel to relax and get ready to leave in the morning. I'm traveling very light - just one carry on bag and a little pack for my camera stuff. That's all!

I probably won't write anymore updates until I get to Holland in the middle of next week.

Au Revois!
