Paris!
Wednesday 2000-08-23
I've been in Paris for a little over a day. The flight from Los Angeles to Paris was fine.
It took 10 1/2 hours but it didn't seem that long. I'm staying at a hostel in Paris very
near the Sacre-Coeur church. I've stayed at this hostel on several of my other trips to
Paris.
The weather is wonderful! Blue skies and warm, maybe even too warm. It's been about 75 to
80 degrees F (about 25 C). Yesterday I walked all over Paris, just to reacquaint myself
with the city. The walking combined with my jet lag helped me to sleep very well last
night!
Today I spent most of the day at Versailles. It's about a 30 minute train ride from the
middle of Paris to Versailles. I walked around about 1/2 of the gardens at Versailles,
then I rented a bicycle. I rode around most of the palace grounds on the bike. That was
the highlight of the day. I definately need to take a bike trip across France someday!
My travel plans are very fluid. I think I'll be in Paris until this weekend, then I'm
going to take the 'Chunnel' train (the one that goes under the English channel) from
Paris to London. I'll probably only stay in London for a day or two. Soon after that
I think I'm going to visit my friend Anna in Germany. She and I are planning to go to
the Expo 2000 fair in Hannover. After that I'll probably go to Berlin. And then to Prague.
On my way back from Prague I'll probably stop in Holland to visit some friends there.
And then back to Paris and depart for California. All of this is subject to change of
course.
I thought I was over my jet lag, but I'm feeling it kick in. More updates soon...
